(CNN) — An outbreak of illness linked to consumption of tainted cantaloupes has been linked to 13 deaths and 72 illnesses in 18 states, a federal disease agency reported Wednesday.
The outbreak — blamed on the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes — was first reported September 12, when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 15 people in four states had been infected. The illnesses were traced to consumption of Rocky Ford cantaloupes grown at Jensen Farms’ fields in Granada, Colorado.
Well I think we all know what this means. Fruit salad sales are going to plummet – I think its a known fact that whoever makes fruit salads just absolutely bombards them with cantaloupe and melons. It’s not even fair. Sometimes all I want is a couple grapes or god forbid a pineapple slice, but nooo I gotta woof down 27 pieces of the ‘loupe. Maybe this cantaloupe plague isn’t so bad after all. Sure a people are dying and that’s tragic and all, but look at the bright side. Maybe now fruit salads will be filled with ingredients you want to eat. Picture this, a bowl of grapes, strawberries, blueberries, kiwis, pineapples, and a few melon slices (don’t you dare replace the amount of cantaloupe with melons) doesn’t that just sound delectable!
