This is what the Game of Thrones Season 2 premiere did to me

Yeah, it inspired me to bake vegan oatmeal squares with a blueberry, raspberry, and pecan center. I think there’s something about a king’s bastard baby being murdered that makes one crave sweets, no?

I’d give you the recipe but I legit just made this shit up with ingredients that were in my pantry/fridge. Below is the recipe that inspired it from, but I hardly followed it and added in pure maple syrup for an extra fat kid kick. Oh, and if you’re wondering why I’m posting this on Tuesday morning as opposed to Monday morning (as the premiere was Sunday night) this is all I have to say: boozy birthday brunches with fancy cocktails on an empty stomach makes it really difficult to stay awake past 9:00PM. Just saying.

  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

In a mixing bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Combine oats, flour, baking soda and salt; add to the creamed mixture. Spread two-thirds in the bottom of an ungreased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan; set aside. For filling, heat milk, chocolate chips, butter and salt in a saucepan or microwave-safe bowl until melted. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla and walnuts. Spread over oat mixture in pan. Drop remaining oat mixture by tablespoonfuls over chocolate. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 to 25 minutes.
